Youth Crimes Unit
The Richmond Police Department’s Youth Crimes Unit is the investigative component of our Department’s Youth Services Division. The Unit is staffed with 3 detectives and a sergeant. Youth Crimes Unit detectives conduct follow-up investigations on criminal cases involving juvenile suspects (those under the age of 18 years) and on non-criminal missing or runaway juvenile reports. Youth Crimes Unit detectives regularly collaborate with local and regional social services agencies to serve the interest of young people by promoting education, prevention, diversion, safety and civility. The Youth Crimes Unit objectives include encouraging juveniles to avoid illegal drugs and gangs, to stay in school, and to contribute to their community in positive ways.
