In response to COVID-19 pandemic and its economic fallout, many local organizations in Richmond, California are creating or expanding rental assistance programs to support individuals and families impacted by the pandemic.

California COVID-19 Rent Relief Program Information

Income eligible households who need financial assistance for unpaid rent and utilities will be able to apply for help through the California COVID-19 Rent Relief Program. 

If you have experiences a financial hardship due to COVID-19, have past due rent or utilities, and have a household income that is not more than 80% of the Area Median Income, you may be eligible to receive help to pay past due or future rent and utilities from the state of California. 

Landlords and tenants can verify eligibility immediately by visiting, or by calling (833) 430-2122, and if eligible, apply. 

Richmond Neighborhood Housing Services (RNHS)

RNHS is a local partner network that may assist income eligible households in Richmond to apply for the California Rent Relief Program through Housing is Key and seek local rent assistance resources. For more information, call (510) 237-6459 ext. 1606 or by email at

Programa de Ayuda Con la Renta de COVID-19 de California

Los hogares que califican por sus ingresos y que necesitan ayuda financiera para pagar la renta y los servicios públicos no pagados podrán solicitar ayuda a través del Programa de Alivio de Renta COVID-19 de California.

NEW! Richmond Rapid Response Fund (R3F)

The Richmond Rent Program is proud to be part of the West Contra Costa COVID Community Cares Coalition. Launched the week after shelter-in -place took effect, the coalition engages over 90 cross-sector stakeholders including community partners and non-profits, the City, the West Contra Costa Unified School District, the County, local and regional coalitions, and funders. 

Richmond Rapid Response Fund (R3F) was born from this community-centered process. The R3F will provide, coordinate, and advocate for direct resources and supports to heal our community in the wake of these ongoing crises and systemic racism. Beyond this pandemic, the fund will create healing centered, racially just policies, practices, and investments for long term community transformation.
