Stormwater

The city's stormwater program seeks to maintain a healthy aquatic environment by keeping pollutants out of the storm drain system, creeks, and the bay. The program strives to reduce trash and pesticide use, engage residents, and educate businesses on practices to reduce or eliminate pollutants in our water bodies.

Stormwater Specific Permits

Stormwater-specific permits for industrial and commercial businesses will be issued in July 2010 to additional business classifications. See the Permit FAQ.

Volunteer Opportunities

September is Coastal Cleanup Month! Two ways to participate:

Self-guided neighborhood cleanups:

Participate throughout the month by cleaning your neighborhoods, parks, and other local areas. Trash from inland areas flows downstream to the coast, so cleaning up neighborhood trash prevents marine debris. Gather cleanup supplies from home, download the CleanSwell app (to count your trash, and to have your trash counted!), and clean on your own time throughout September.

California Coastal Cleanup Day: Saturday September 18, 2021 from 9am-noon

Come
join The Watershed Project, the City of Richmond, and Supervisor John Gioia’s office for Coastal Cleanup Day, the state’s largest shoreline cleanup project. Volunteers are needed to pick up the massive amounts of debris that accumulate on our beaches and inland shorelines. Join us in saving marine habitat. Bring your families and friends.
